• Student Information: First names only (no last names or full names)
• Writing Submissions: Student writing content, grammar check results, and submission attempts
• AI-Generated Images: Images created based on student writing using DALL-E
• Class Information: Class names, grade levels, and themes selected by teachers
• Usage Data: Submission timestamps, completion status, and progress tracking

3. Purpose of Data Collection

All data collected is used exclusively for educational purposes to:

• Enable students to create and develop their creative writing skills
• Generate personalized AI images based on student writing
• Provide teachers with analytics and insights into student progress
• Support classroom management and educational activities

4. Data Access and Sharing

Access to student data is limited to:

• Authorized Teachers: Teachers associated with the student's class can view student submissions and progress
• Students: Students can view their own submissions and progress
• Parents/Guardians: Upon request, parents can access their child's data
• School Administrators: Authorized school personnel with appropriate access

We do not sell, rent, or share student data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services for educational functionality:

• OpenAI: We use OpenAI's DALL-E API to generate images based on student writing and Claude API for grammar checking and narrative generation. OpenAI processes data in accordance with their privacy policy and does not use our data to train their models.
• Supabase: We use Supabase for secure data storage and hosting of generated images.

These services are used only for the educational functionality of our platform. We do not allow third parties to use student data for advertising or any other purpose.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Student data is retained only as long as necessary for educational purposes. Upon request from a teacher, school administrator, or parent/guardian, we will delete all associated student data within 30 days. To request data deletion, please contact us at support@storyme.co.

7. COPPA Compliance

StoryMe Worlds is designed for use by students under 13 years of age. In compliance with COPPA:

• We obtain parental consent through the school, which acts as the authorized agent for parents
• We collect only the minimum information necessary for educational purposes
• We do not collect personal information directly from children without school authorization
• We do not use student data for behavioral advertising or marketing
• Parents have the right to review, delete, or refuse further collection of their child's information

8. FERPA Compliance

StoryMe Worlds complies with FERPA requirements:

• Schools act as authorized agents for parents in providing consent for student data collection
• We maintain the confidentiality of student educational records
• We do not disclose student information to unauthorized parties
• Parents and eligible students have the right to access and request corrections to their educational records
• We provide schools with the ability to manage and control access to student data

9. Security Measures

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect student data, including encryption, secure authentication, and regular security audits. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify schools and teachers of any material changes. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
